Son of W. H. Lockhart Gordon and Emily Gordon Gordon, of 221, George St., Toronto, Canada.

Captain M. L. Gordon's younger brother Captain Walter Leslie Lockhart Gordon, 2nd Battalion C.E.F., was killed at the 2nd battle of Ypres.

The Gordon family placed a double memorial plaque for their two sons in All Saints' Church (1872), 315 Dundas Street East, Toronto. This memorial included a dedication to Captain Maitland Lockhart Gordon, Gordon Highlanders, who was killed in action while leading an attack on the German trenches at Bullecourt, France on May 7th, 1917. On the other half of this memorial, the tribute to his younger brother Captain W. L. L. Gordon.

The names of both Gordon brothers also appear on a memorial tablet at All Saints dedicated to parishioners who lost their lives in the war. This tablet was placed near the altar in 1922.
