Red Deer News, 18 July 1917, pg. 1:

Word was received by Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Meeres, at Clearview, on Friday, that their son, Gunner Edward W. Meeres, of the 19th Battery, had been killed in action on July 3rd. He was 21 years of age. "Ted" first tried to enlist in the 12th Mounted Rifles, but was rejected. Later, when teaching at Coutts, he succeeded in joining the Artillery at Lethbridge. Wthin a month he was in England, when, in order to get to the front more quickly, he voluntarily transferred, and was in the fighting line only six weeks after he enlisted. He was one of the telephone operators for his Battery, and was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal. "Ted" had the happy knack of making friends wherever he went, and his loss will be regretted by many.
