Original overseas unit: 6th University Company. Joined the P.P.C.L.I. in the field July 22, 1917.

According to the CWGC he was a Private at the time of his death. According to R. Hodder Williams, Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry 1914 - 1919, Volume Two, Roll of Honour & Appendices, page 94, he was a Lance Corporal.....and according to S. K. Newman, With the Patricia's in Flanders 1914 - 1918, Then & Now, page 204, he reverted back to Private before crossing to France.
