Uploader's Research notes: Source: LAC files; War Diary References: 43rd Battalion, October 09 & 26, 1917; London Gazette LG 30 191 [Company Sergeant-Major Army Canadian Infantry 17th Reserve Battalion Assigned to permanent cadre. Company Sergeant-Major Army Canadian Infantry 101st Battalion Transferred from the 61st Battalion as an original battalion NCO on November 30, 1915. Promoted to CQMS the following day, when the battalion officially mobilized. From March 06 to April 15, 1916 was posted to the School of Instruction at Winnipeg. Promoted to Company Sergeant Major on return. Sailed for England with the 101st Battalion Lieutenant Army Canadian Infantry 14th Reserve Battalion Private Army Canadian Infantry 6th Officer Cadet Battalion Balliol College Applied for officer training in March 1917. Voluntary reversion to private on acceptance to Balliol College OTS at Oxford. Posted to NSRD for administration. Commissioned as a lieutenant on June 27, 1917; he was gazetted on July 17, ref LG 30191. Sergeant Army Canadian Infantry 61st Battalion Lieutenant Army Canadian Infantry 43rd Battalion B Company Arrived in France on August 17, 1917, posted to the 3rd Divisional Training Centre. Joined the 43rd Battalion at Ottawa Camp, Bois des Alieux on October 09. He was seen to be hit just as he led his platoon "over the top" during the 43rd Battalion attack on the Bellevue Spur on October 26. His body was not recovered, and he was posted as MIA. He was confirmed as KIA on December 24, 1917. ]
