Description: From the Regimental Diaries:
On 15/8/17, on Hill 70, this soldier while a No. 2 of a LEWIS GUN section, greatly assisted his No. 1 to advance the gun in the attack, which they did without awaiting orders from their seniors. On 16/8/17 in the attack on the CHALK PIT, he and the No. 1 were selected to cover the left flank. They rushed the gun forward and this man acting as a tripod, allowing the No. 1 to fire on the retreating enemy, causing many casualties.
