Originally mobilized with the 3rd Contingent 100th Winnipeg Grenadiers Regiment.

Admitted to Camp Hughes Hospital with Rheumatic Fever on October 08, but discharged early so he could proceed to England with the battalion. Sailed with the 44th Battalion aboard SS Lapland from Halifax to Liverpool, October 22-30. Posted to Bramshott Camp on arrival.

Admitted sick to Frensham Hill Hospital, November 05; discharged to Bearwood Convalescent Hospital, Wokingham on November 15; and discharged to duty with the battalion on November 23.

Attached to the Canadian Base Depot at Havre on landing in France, April 24. Joined the 27th Battalion at Camp B south of Ypres on May 14. Wounded in the left hand at Courcelette on September 19. Admitted to the 8th General Hospital, Wimereux. Evacuated to England and attached to the Canadian Casualty Assembly Centre for administrative purposes. Hospitalized at the Lord Derby War Hospital, Warrington from October 12; Woodcote Park Convalescent Hospital from October 21.

Discharged to duty and attached to CCAC, Hastings. On Januaty 18, 1917 was attached to the 11th Reserve Battalion pending return to France.

Returned to France on February 01. Hospitalized with Influenza at 7th General Hospital, Harfleur between February 10-18. Rejoined the 27th Battalion at Mont St Eloi on March 03, 1917.

Reported Missing in Action after the attack on Farbus Station, April 10, 1917.
