Enlisted in 76th Simcoe Battalion
He spent 3 years with the 35 Rgt. Simcoe Foresters before joining the 76th. According the the 76th Btn regimental history. He served in 13 Platoon - D Company among various of his close friends from Cookstown Ont. (Louis Monkman, Clark Duff, Norris Hepper and Tom Lawrence)
Alvin also was very athletic. The 76th Battalion conducted track and field competitions and Alvin won nearly every event.
