Uploader's Notes: Rowland Thomas Aston was actually born 4 January 1894 to Mrs Annie Hanwell, 194 Balsall Heath, Balsall Heath Road, Birmingham England but was given to the Sheppard House in London England. Rowland lied on his above Attestation Form.with incorrect spelling of first name and date of birth.Rowland came to Canada with a group of boys from Sheppard House in East London. An 8 year old Rowland Aston leaves Liverpool England on 25 September 1902 on the ship Colonian and arrives in Portland Maine on 6 October 1902 with final destination the Barnardo Homes in Toronto Ontario.By 1915 Roland is married to the former Mary Katharine Foltas( born Austria 6 Nov 1893 and dies 31 May 1963 in St Catherines Ontario) and is working as a Locomotive Fireman out of Port Dalhousie Ontario On 31 January 1916 a 21 year old now Roland Aston enlists in the 81st Battalion CEF in St Catherines Ontario. The 81st Battalion was authorized on 10 July 1915 and sailed for England on 28 April 1916 and by 28 June 1916 Private Roland T Aston is with the 4th Battalion Canadian Mounted Rifles because he had some previous Militia Service with The Governor General's Body Guard.On 1 October 1916 former Barnardo Child 21 year old Private Roland Thomas Aston is killed in action during the Battle of the Somme attacking Regina Trench with the 4th Battalion Canadian Mounted Rifles 8th Infantry Brigade, 3rd Canadian Division.Private Roland Aston left behind a wife Mary Aston and a year old son Raymond W Aston.
