Only son of Reuben Herbert & Carrie Maud (Smith), of Port Hope, Ontario. 9birth registration)

At the time of his death, Reuben was in the bombing section of his unit. A comrade accidentally lighted the fuse of one of the bombs, and, throwing away his jacket, he was caught in the explosion and was mortally wounded. He died at the dressing station and was buried at Albert, France. (Family notes)
