Description: For coolness, courage, resource, and ability as a Battalion Scout.
In the absence of his Officer this man was in charge of the Battalion Scout Section.
His services were of inestimable value, and his work showing a remarkable degree of resource coupled with courage. Prior to the attack Pte. Burns in charge of three other Ranks laid the guide tapes to assembly position and during the action when the position was critical and reports had not come in he went out to locate the forward Officers, and returned with valuable and accurate information.
His work was carried out under heavy barrage fire and no call found him wanting.

Italian Bronze Medal for Military Valour. Son of Mrs. Milly Burns of 3040 Fifth Avenue West, Vancouver, British Columbia.

Awarded the Military Medal for actions at Coucelette on the Somme, October 1916. He treated the wounded under fire.

Bar to Military Medal in 1918.
