Prior to the war, served 3 years with the 3rd Regt. Victoria Rifles of Canada-Canadian militia. Aug., 1914 3rd Victoria Regiment's active service. Sept., 21 attested 14 bn. C.E.F. Valcartier. Sept.30 embarked S.S. Andania. Oct. 17, 1914 disembarked Plymouth and reunited with other half bn. (S.S.Alaunia) -off to Salsbury plain for training. Feb.15, 1915 Fletre south of Popenringe. April 24, 1915 Ypres salient on Poelcapelle road, shrapnel wound to leg. June 25,1915 TOS 14th bn. Nov. 11, 1915 at Kortepyp, Belgium-shrapnel right forearm and left hip. Nov. 12, 1915 admitted #13 Cdn. gen.Hospital Boulogne for surgery. July 20,1916 rejoined 23 reserve bn. at Folkstone. August 21, 1916 granted commission. Sept. 21, 1916 transfered 73 bn. Oct. 11, 1916 joined 73rds billets Warloy-Baillon, France, west of Albert. Nov. 26, 1916 proceeded on Officer's and N.C.O. course. Jan.4, 1917 Attached to 12 Brigade as brigade wiring officer. Feb. 14, 1917 rejoined bn. from brigade headquarters.

March 1, 1917 attacking lines near Souchez was severely wounded. While being carried out by stretcher bearers he was killed by an artillery shell that was almost a direct hit. His body was never recovered.
