Uploader's Notes: Son of John Henderson and Elizabeth McMullen of Marlbank, Ontario. William grew up on his father s farm near Lime Lake and went west in 1907 to help with the harvest. He enlisted in December of 1915 into the 20 April 1915 organized 68th Canadian Infantry Battalion ( Regina). The 68th sailed for England on 28 April 1916. After 2 months of training in England the 68th was sent to France where it was absorbed by the 16th or Canadian Scottish Battalion. Pte Henderson served with the 16th during the battle of the Somme. Pte William Arthur Henderson was killed during the Battle of Vimy Ridge on 9 April 1917 by an enemy Machine gun bullet. Pte Henderson is believed to be part of a group of 44 mostly Canadian Scotish Battalion men who are buried or left ( misplaced) on the battlefied in crater CA40.
