Arthur Evett John Hinks was the son of the late Mr Arthur William Hinks and his wife Charlotte Hinks. Son Arthur was born in Colchester Essex and Christened at Weedon Northampton England on 20 Dec 1891. At age 11 Arthur John Evett Hinks became a Barnardo Home Child and arrived in Canada on 29 July 1903 on the Ship Dominion for Farm Work in Winnipeg or Russell Manitoba.Arthur married Lillian Hope Caney in Winnipeg on 16 April 1914. Lillian Hope Caney was born in Colchester Essex on 13 September 1891 and came to the St James District of Winnipeg Manitoba in 1912 In 1916 they were living at 299 Robinson Ave in Selkirk Manitoba where he was working for the Selkirk Asylum Farm Department as a Herdsman. On 20 April 1916 at Winnipeg Manitoba Arthur E J Hinks joins the 203rd Canadian Infantry Battalion (Winnipeg Rifles) and this Battalion sails for England in October 1916 and is broken up.On 28 December 1916 Private Arthur Evett John Hinks joins the 78th Canadian Infantry Battalion ( Winnipeg Grenadiers) who had been in France since 13 August 1916.On 9 April 1917 former Barnardo Home Child Private Arthur Evett John Hinks was Killed in Action.
On 16 January 1915 their son Cecil Charles David Hinks was born in Selkirk Manitoba and he became a Freshwater Biologist.On 29 July 1942 W02 Cecil Charles David Hinks an RCAF Observer/Navigator died when his Vickers Wellington bomber was shot down during a night Raid over Hamburg Germany. All 5 NCO crew members were killed including Arthur and Lillian Hinks son Cecil.
