Son of Abram Kitchen and Marion Kitchen of Prince William, New Brunswick.

Enlisted with 1st Division at Valcartier being assigned to the Divisional Cavalry. Prior connection to 19th Alberta Dragoons.
Trooper Kitchen was tasked along with 3 officers and 119 other ranks to be stretcher bearers assigned to the 3rd Infantry Brigade during attacks on the Kenora and Regina Trenches. It was while thus serving that he was killed in action on September 26, 1916.
