Uploader's Notes: Son of Jessie Francis Bird ( Kennard later Mrs George Elmes) and the late Thomas Kennard, of 160, Lots Rd., King's Rd., Chelsea, London, England.By 1901 Father Thomas Kennard is dead and Jesse Frances (Bird) Kennard is a widow with her 4 year old son Thomas Charles Kennard. On 12 March 1908 Thomas Charles Kennard leaves Liverpool on the ship Dominion and arrives 23 March 1908 into the Winter Port of Portland Maine as a Home child for the Barnardo Homes in Toronto Ontario. In 1911 Thomas Kennard is adopted by Mary and Angus McDougal of Gamebridge Village Thorah Township. In 1915 Thomas Kennard takes a course at the McKee Business College and joins the 1st Simcoe Battalion. On 26 Jan 1916 Thomas Charles Kennard joins the 157th Barrie Headquartered Canadian Infantry Battalion. By 7 Feb 1916 Private Thomas Kennard is transferred to the Barrie Headquartered 76th Canadian Infantry Battalion. On 29 June 1916 Private Kennard is a member of the 4th Central Ontario Canadian Infantry Battalion in France. On 9 April 1917 former Barnardo Home Child Thomas Charles Kennard is Killed in Action during an Attack on Vimy Ridge.
