Remained on strength of the 226th Battalion after arrival in England. Posted to the 14th Reserve Battalion at Bramshott.

Private Army Canadian Infantry 226th Battalion C Company Enlisted at Neepawa, Manitoba. Trained at Camp Hughes in the summer of 1916. Embarked at Halifax, Nova Scotia aboard the SS Olympic on December 15, 1916 and landed at Liverpool on December 26, 1916. Posted to Dibgate, Shorncliffe, but remained on strength of the 226th Battalion. Private Army Canadian Infantry 78th Battalion Reported to the 78th Battalion in the field on June 26, 1917. On Christmas Day 1917, the battalion was in brigade support trenches (12th Infantry Brigade, 4th Division) on the Red Line, Avion Sector, astride the Lens-Arras Road. During the morning, he was one of two men killed by an enemy artillery shell, (the other being JR Sloan, 422616). ]
