Son of Mr. and Mrs. R. J. H. De Long, of Goderich, Ontario.

Originally enlisted with the 175th Battalion and arrived in Liverpool England on October 13, 1916. On January 10, 1917 he was transferred to the 21st Reserve Battalion at Seaford and on February 27th he was taken on strength by the 50th Battalion of the Canadian Infantry, Alberta Regiment at La Havre. He joined his unit on March 16, 1917 at Cerency. On April 10, 1917 he was wounded in action at Hill 145 and sent to the No. 3 Canadian General Hospital in Boulogne for treatment and then transferred to the No. 7 Convalescent Depot in Boulogne on April 15th. He was then transferred to the No. 10 Convalescent Depot in Ecault where he remained until May 8, 1917 when he was taken on by Base Detail until June 4th when he returned to his unit. He was killed in action on June 25, 1917.
