Killed in Action while directing his battery which took part in the machine gun barrage during the attack on Sains-les-Marquion on the morning of September 27th, 1918. He was hit in the back by shrapnel from an enemy shell. Stretcher bearers rendered first aid, but he died before he could be taken to a dressing station.
