RESEARCH INFORMATION
Son of John and Mary (Susan?)Tardy, of Dalhousie New Brunswick. One of three brothers killed ( Joe with the ANZACs and Frank and Robert with the CEF).
In 1916 Frank was wounded on 28 April and again on 17 June .
At the time of his death, the 26 Bn was engaged in very heavy fighting around Regina Trench on the Somme. The day after Frank was killed the 26th Bn had been reduced to an effective strength on only 190 men and ther were withdrawn from battle. His body was never identified and either lies in a grave marked "Known onto God" or is mixed with the soil of France.
The sad treatment of the Tardy family, after the war, is one of the darker moments in the town's history. A Newcastle street was named in honour of the 4 Tardy boys in the 1980s
