Son of Mrs. Louisa Thorogood, of 69, Morley Avenue, Noel Park, Wood Green, London, England. On 22 June 1905 a 7 year old William Thorogood leaves Liverpool on the ship Southwark that arrives in Quebec City on 1 July 1905 with a group of children for the Barnardo Homes in Toronto.On 13 Dec 1915 an 18 year old William Thorogood becomes a Private in the Toronto Headquartered 126th Overseas "Peel" Battalion in Toronto Ontario. The 126th sailed for England in August 1916 and by 13 Oct 1916 the 126th Peel Battalion was broken up and Private William Thorogood became a member of the 38th Ottawa Battalion between 4-6th Dec 1916.On 9 April 1917 20 year old former Barnardo Child Private William Thorogood of the 38th Canadian Infantry Eastern Ontario Regiment,12 Canadian Infantry Brigade,4th Canadian Division is Killed In Action attacking Vimy Ridge.
