Son of Edward James Fright (died in 1898) and Christiana Brand Fright (nee Clark, died in 1902) of Thanet, Kent, England.

On 21 February 1907 a 10 year old Edward James and 7 year old Albert Thomas Fright leave Liverpool, England as Home Children on the ship Dominion that arrives in the Winter port of Portland, Maine on 5 March 1907 for final destination, the Barnardo Homes in Toronto Ontario. Edward and younger brother (Alfred) Thomas are servants in the home of Mary and William Corless in Dorchester, Elgin, Ontario. On 1 February 1912 Edward James Fright joins the Springfield Branch of the Traders Bank of Canada (now RBC Securities) as a Bank clerk. On 1 Jan 1916 a 19 year old Edward joins the 91st Battalion at its Headquarters in St. Thomas, Ontario. Private Fright arrives in Liverpool England on 5 July 1916 and is transferred to the 36th Reserve Battalion on 15 July 1916. On 4 October 1916 Private Fright is transferred to the 58th Battalion. On 26 October 1917, 21 year old former Barnardo child Private Edward James Fright of the 58th Battalion is Killed in Action during battle at Passchendaele.
