Description: For conspicuous bravery and devotion to duty in action. On Aug. 16th this soldier was employed as a Battalion runner. The Battalion was ordered to make an attack. The only method of communication to companies was by runner. All the battalion runners were greatly fatigued. This man volunteered to deliver the orders although it was not his turn to run. He successfully made his run through the enemy barrage. He was buried by shell fire on the run but continued with the orders.

On 16/8/17, on Hill 70, this soldier was employed as a Battalion runner and when the Battalion was ordered to make an attack the only means of communication being by runner, this man volunteered to deliver the message, although all the Battalion runners were greatly fatigued, and it not being his turn to run. While passing through the enemy barrage he was buried by shell fire but continued on until the message was delivered.
