Date of Birth declared on Attestation papers was October 7, 1888 but birth record confirms the correct Date of Birth was October 7, 1885
This young man was assigned as a reinforcement to the 58th Battalion on June 6, 1916 and arrived at the front June 9, 1916. He was killed in action on June 10, 1916 at Sanctuary Wood less than one day after arriving at the front. However, he was not reported as a casualty by the Battalion until July 7th. There is no information in his service file to explain why he was missing for a month before being reported KIA. According to a newspaper article in the Toronto Telegram in August 1916, he had only been in the trenches about 2 hours before being KIA
