Husband of Margaret May Phillips, of 648, King St., Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada.

Enlisted December 9, 1901 with the Canadian Yeomanry and served in South Africa as Regimental No. 112. He was awarded the Queen's South Africa Medal with the Cape Colony, Transvaal and South Africa 1902 clasps for his service with the 2nd Regiment, Canadian Mounted Rifles. Present at the Battle of Hart's River.

He enlisted with the 12th Battalion at Fredericton, N.B., on September 19, 1914, serving as Regimental No. 22625. He proceeded to Britain aboard the “S.S. Scotian” on October 4, 1914 and was discharged on November 30, 1914, having re-enlisted in the 1st Battalion, Dorsetshire Regiment, B.E.F.
