Description: From the Regimental Diary:
On 15/8/17, on Hill 70, when a No. 2 of a Lewis Gun Crew, his No. 1 was wounded, and he took his gun and spare parts over in the advance and put the gun into action in the old German Front Line. When his company relieved part of the 7th. Battalion in the RED LINE, he organized a new crew from his platoon and made a new emplacement for his gun.
On 16/8/17, in the attack on the CHALK PIT, three of his men were wounded, and he himself wounded in the left soldier, but he continued to carry on until relieved. He then took up a position in the BLUE LINE until ordered out to the Dressing Station by an Officer.
