Private Norman McQuinn was serving with the 2nd Canadian Mounted Rifles, a mounted troop that had been converted to Infantry early in the war. On May 16, 1916, the 2CMR was manning the front line Hooge Trench on the Somme. Private McQueen was killed by sniper fire, the only casuality of the 2CMR on that day.
