Son of Mr. W. A. and Mrs. M. L. Brunton, of Newmarket, Ontario.

Originally enlisted as OR with the 95th Btn and given service number 201122 on October 22, 1915. Attested as a Lieutenant at Mt. Dennis, Ontario with the 127th York Rangers Btn on June 5, 1916.

War Diary of November 1, 1917 states that Lieutenant Brunton was killed by a shell at Potijze on the 31st. He went up to the front line with the advance party and was killed shortly after arriving at the line. His batman 643301 Pte. William Nelson Paddison was also killed.

75th Battalion War Diary Entry from Potijze, dated November 1st, 1917.

Arrived here last night from BRANDHOEK. Lieut. R. R. BRUNTON, M.C., who went up last night with the advance party was unfortunately killed by a shell, shortly after arriving at the line. Lieut. BRUNTON had only recently received his decoration for good services in action, and the Battalion has lost an excellent officer in his death. Major BAYNES-REED our Battalion Chaplain was on duty in the forward area at the time and he was able to give Mr. BRUNTON and his batman, Pte. Paddison, who fell at the same time a Christian burial at YPRES Prison Cemetery.

Both were buried by the Btn Chaplain Major Baynes-Reed in the Ypres Prison Cemetery.
