Uploader's Notes: John Cooper Sumner was the only son of Cooper Sumner and Ada(Smith) Sumner who in 1901 all lived in Cleethorpes Grimsby Lincolnshire England.Mr and Mrs Sumner owned and Managed the Cliff Hotel until Father John Cooper died 12 Nov 1901 and Mother Ada sold the Cleethorpes Cliff Hotel in 1908. On 14 March 1912 a 14 year old John C Sumner (Summer) leaves London on the ship Corinthian that arrived in Saint John New Brunswick on 1 April 1912.with a Party of Children for the Barnardo Homes in Toronto. On 4 March 1916 an 18 year old John Sumner enlists in the 109th Overseas Battalion in Lindsay Ontario.The 109th Victoria and Haliburton Infantry Battalion embarked for England in 1916 where it was broken up. Private John Cooper Sumner is transferred to the 20th Canadian Infantry(Central Ontario Regiment). On 9 April 1917 20 year old former Barnardo Child Private John C Sumner is Killed In Action as a member of the 20th Battalion 4th Infantry Brigade 2nd Canadian Division attacking Vimy Ridge
