Uploader's Notes:

Executed on 10th December 1916 for desertion. By modern standards, 2nd Lieutenant Poole may well have been suffering from shell shock but, sadly but importantly, by the standards of the time he knew that desertion was a grave offence hence the death sentence given by Field General Court Martial was upheld and put into effect.

Read chapter 26 (pages 325 to 336) of Blindfold and Alone: British Military Executions in the Great War" by Cathryn Corns and John Hughes-Wilson, published by Cassell & Co (2001) for more information on 2nd Lieutenant Poole.
