Uploader's Notes: There are 2 sets of attestation papers for this man. The above record is taken from the first when it would appear he was discharged due to his eyesight. He re enlisted on 7th April 1917 at Toronto. On this occasion he gave his occupation as a Sailor and his current address as Hotel Rupert, Queen Street East, Toronto. This time he enlisted on the 7th April 1917 at Toronto and did state that he had served for 10 months with the 177th Battalion prior to being discharged. He is mentioned on the 11th Machine Gun Company war diary as being killed during heavy shell fire in the vicinity of Passchendaele after the company had been relieved in their positions and were heading back towards Tyne Cot. It also mentions that he had been seconded to the 11th Company from the 54th Battalion as a carrier.
