As of February 26, 2007 John Babcock is one of only two surviving CEF Veterans, along with Percy Wilson. The third remaining veteran, Lloyd Clemett passed away in Toronto Ontario on February 21, 2007.

John Babcock became an American Citizen 60 years ago (Toronto Star, February 23, 2007) and now resides in Spokane, Washington.

As of May 2007 he became the last surviving Canadian from WWI on the passing of Percy Wilson at 106.

John Henry Foster Babcock died in Spokane, Washington , U.S.A. on Thursday Februeary 18, 2010 at 109 years of age. Obituary on the front page of the Globe and Mail (Feb 19, 2010) opens with the paragraph: "A last trumpet for John Henry Foster Babcock. A last muffled beat of the drum."
