Private Frederick Thomas Herd was an original enlistee into the 160th Battalion (Service No. 651473) on January 24th, 1916. He received a medical discharge from the 160th Battalion on Feb. 15th, 1916. He then enlisted into the 168th Battalion at Woodstock, Ontario, on April, 6th, 1916. On arrival in Britain the 168th was broken up and the men put into reserve battalions to await a draft to France.
