RESEARCH INFORMATION
Son of Alexander Murray McQueen and Susan Elizabeth McQueen (nee Luckham) of 146 Warren Road, Toronto, Ontario
The events of September 30th, 1918 near Cambrai were explained in Kevin R. Shackleton's book "Second to None: The Fighting 58th Battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force" (pgs. 268-9). There are also some details in the 58th Battalion War diaries which are online.
Alexander Murray McQueen had been a senior official of Imperial Oil since 1916. According to a Toronto Star report from April 7th, 1919, Mr. McQueen "had devoted practically all of his business career to the oil business in western Ontario and other parts of the world." McQueen was at the time of this report elected as a vice-president of Imperial Oil Company, and was also a vice-president of the International Petroleum Company. He was a native of Petrolea, Ontario, with his father as one of the earliest settlers of that district. He began his career with the Petrolea Crude Oil and Tanking Company, and was later associated with M. J. Woodward and Company and the Peremier Oil Company, Limited's oil refineries in the Petrolea district.
Hugh Murray McQueen attended St. Andrew's College from 1912-13, and his photograph appears on their online roll of honour. St. Andrew's College - entry for H. M. McQueen
